What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that promotes relaxation and healing by channeling "universal life force energy" (Rei-Ki) through a practitioner's hands, placed lightly on or above the body, to balance the energy flow, reduce stress and support the body's natural recovery. It is valued for its calming, restorative nature.

Is Reiki a religion?

No, Reiki is not a religion.  It is form of energy healing. People of many different faiths practice Reiki without feeling it conflicts  with their personal beliefs.  Reiki was developed in Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui in 1922. It was designed to be a simple, accessible healing technique rather than a religious doctrine.  It is similar to yoga or meditation - a tool for stress reduction and personal wellness.

How long is a session?

Most sessions are about an hour.

Do I stay clothed during a reiki session?

Yes. You remain fully clothed for a reiki session. Wearing soft, comfortable clothing is encouraged to help you relax more easily.

Will you touch me during the Reiki session?

That’s entirely up to you. Reiki can be offered with a light, gentle touch or with hands hovering just above the body. I avoid all sensitive areas and always follow your comfort level. You can choose touch or no touch before we begin.  I also offer a blanket or sheet for added comfort.

Is one Reiki session enough?

One session is a lovely introduction and can give you a sense of how your body responds. Some people continue with additional sessions to support ongoing wellness goals or simply because they enjoy the deep relaxation it brings.

Can Reiki help with acute or chronic issues?

If you’re experiencing an acute medical concern, it’s important to seek care from a licensed healthcare professional. Reiki can be a supportive addition to your overall wellness plan, especially for ongoing stress or long‑term concerns.

What might I feel during the session?

Most people feel deeply relaxed—sometimes even drifting into sleep. You may notice warmth, tingling, or a gentle sense of ease. Others feel emotional or can feel very calm. Every experience is unique, and all are completely normal. There’s no right or wrong way to experience it.

Is there talking during the session?

Reiki is usually offered in a quiet, peaceful environment with soft music. You’re welcome to speak up at any time if you need anything—temperature adjustments, a change in position, or simply to share what you’re feeling. Your comfort always comes first.

Is there anything I should do after my session?

It’s helpful to drink water and give yourself a bit of quiet time if possible. Some people like to reflect after the session.

Can I receive too much Reiki?

Reiki is gentle and works with your body’s natural energy. You’ll only take in what you need, so there’s no such thing as “too much.”

Reiki has not been found to have any adverse effects. Because there is nothing about a Reiki session that can interfere with conventional medical care, Reiki has no known contraindications and can be used concurrently with any medical intervention.

Should I come if I’m sick?

If you’re feeling unwell or contagious, it’s best to rest and reschedule for when you’re feeling better.
